It also includes explanations of key figures who played a significant role in the early days of erosion control during the late Edo, Meiji, and Taisho periods, as well as photographs of past disasters.

An introduction to the life and work of Dr. Masao Akagi
This PowerPoint presentation was used by Mr. Toshi Higashikawa in his lecture at the Hakusan Erosion Control Special Engineers' Annual General Meeting in June 2024. It introduces the legacy of Dr. Masao Akagi, who modernized Japan's erosion control technology from the Meiji to Showa periods, and his work on the Hakusan erosion control project in Ishikawa Prefecture. The presentation includes photographs of erosion control dams and construction work from the early Showa period, provided by the Kanazawa River and National Highway Office of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, as well as valuable drawings, and includes photographs taken by Mr. Higashikawa showing the current state of the Hakusan erosion control project.
